Description

From the Hoadlhaus restaurant (2304 metres), ski south on the Olympia Abfahrt Damen piste and follow it for 300 vertical metres to the Dohlennest bar.

Put skins on and climb south-east for 15 - 20 minutes to the Widdersbergsattel col (2262 metres).

Turn left and follow the beautiful, wide ridge for 7 - 8 minutes to the exposed summit of the Widdersberg (2327 metres).

From here the line is to the north.

In good conditions it might be possible to ski directly north off the summit but generally the first 20 - 30 metres of the Widdersberg north face is windblown and rocky, so it's usually necessary to carry your skis down this section and put them on 20 - 30 metres below the summit.

Once you have your skis on, ski right into a wide, 30 degree halfpipe type gully which heads down the Widdersberg north-east face.

This gully is right above the huge 300 metre cliff which is visible from the Axamer Lizum carpark, and if you were to be avalanched here, or fall in icy conditions, survival would be almost impossible.

As such, only ski here when there is good, stable snow.

As the gully mellows out and widens, head right to the top of a short, steep step which looks down into a deep, rocky gully below.

Ski down the step, which splits near the bottom (both branches are 40 - 45 degrees) before entering the deep, rocky gully.

Ski down this as it narrows to just a few metres wide and then opens up and joins a wonderful 400 metre tree-filled face.

Ski this down to the Olympia Abfahrt Damen piste and follow it easily back to the bottom of the Olympiabahn lift.
