A great little lift assisted ski tour which begins at the top of the Olympiabahn lift and finishes at the bottom of it.

Description

From the Hoadlhaus restaurant (2340 metres), ski south on the Olympia Abfahrt Damen piste and follow it for 300 vertical metres to the Dohlennest bar.

Put skins on and climb south-east for 15 - 20 minutes to the Widdersbergsattel col (2262 metres).

From the col, take skins off and ski the lovely gentle slopes to the east of the col, drifting left constantly so as to avoid getting to the very foot of the valley you're skiing in (because the valley floor is so flat that you'll need to pole along it).

Eventually you will be above the valley directly to the south of the Schneiderspitze peak.

Drop into the valley, put your skins back on and make the 30 minute ascent up to the Schniedersattel col.

At the col strip your skins and ski east down a nice hanging bowl and a narrow gully to reach Halsl valley.

Turn left and follow a river through the valley, back to the main resort carpark.

Getting down the valley is tricky because it gets very narrow in places, but in good snow conditions you can just hug the left bank of the river.

Even in good conditions things get a bit "rodeo" at times and some combat skiing skills will come in very handy.

If there is poor snow cover and you can't ski out of the valley, one option is to skin eastwards up towards the Birgitzköpfl until you have a clear line down to the carpark.
