FATMAP difficulty grade
Hiking to Maja e Krendevices with snow can be moderate to difficult.
It depends on the snow depth. You can reach Nivica from two directions.
You can drive from Tepelene Side 30km, which has only 7km unpaved road but actually they were working on it and it will finish in one month.
As well you can reach Nivica from new road which start from Kuc Village and goes up to Gusmar, 9km.
The road will be paved probably in one month. We started our hike at Bujtina Hader Xhebro(altitude 960m) which is loacted 7km from the Center of Nivica and the road is unpaved and 4x4 is needed. We ascend from south side trail and descend from the north side which it was not actually a trail.
There is a trail at the north side but it is very dangerous in winter as it goes on the edge of a steep part. During the ascend we followed the trail up to 1840m than we did a short cut as the trail was covered with snow but without snow it very hard to do a short cut as this part is very steep.
The trail is very easy to follow when there is no snow.
So do not follow our Route.
Distance up to the summit is 4.4km and we did it for 3.5h.
Than we follow the summit on the north direction for 2km and then turned to go down.
There was no trail at this part but you can reach the trail that comes from north side.
Total distance was 12km with elevation gain of 1100m and took us 6.5h. Once on the summit the view is magnificent.
On the west side you can see Maja e Cipinit Bolenes 1695m, Maja e Pleshovies 1734m(Kunjova), Maja e Mureve 1700m.
Closed to the sea there is Maja e Bogonices, Maja e Cikes, Maja e Qorres.
On the north side there is Maja e Tartarit 1971m, Maja e Kudhesit 1907m. Enjoy...
