Description

Phase 1 of the 100-Acre Wood Bike Park was completed in 2019, but presumably, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the project was put on hold.

At the time of this writing in the spring of 2021, reports indicate that SDMB is gearing back up to resume trail maintenance and building projects, so hopefully the 100-Acre Wood sees completion soon! However, at the time of this writing, only a small amount of building has been completed here.

While the trail alignments have all been mapped out, only the beginner flow trail, small jump lines, and beginner cross country trail have been fully built out.

In addition, map and plan call for intermediate and advanced flow trail lines and cross country trails.

Since this trail hasn't been completed yet, it hasn't been given a FATMAP Select rating. Once everything is said and done, the 100-Acre Wood will be an incredible asset for the riders of Tucson.

Located in an urban area in the southern portion of the city and situated right off the paved Aviation Bikeway, access to the trails is convenient and traffic-free from many neighborhoods in the area. The bike park will also help fill an obvious gap in the Tucson trail system, as there are no true flow trails to be found anywhere.

While the plans do call for some bigger and more entertaining flow lines to be built here, the tract of land isn't conducive to such lines—it's absolutely flat with no topography change.

A ton of dirt will need to be trucked in to create such a trail, which could be one of the hindrances holding up the completion.

Only time will tell. Still, even at the time of this writing, you can still pedal around through the existing trails, logging several miles of swooping through the cacti on singletrack.

Don't expect much, but for an urban ride, it's a joy to leave the pavement behind for a few minutes!
