Description

Follow the route out to Montana Trees or Montana Peak.

You can ski either route or drop directly from the Goat Peak shoulder and ski the south face down to the bottom of Montana Bowl (where the two streams meet on the flats.

From here you have two options depending on snow and avalanche conditions to reach the peak.

You can gain the ridge directly from the bowl, making several switchbacks up the steeper slope to the notch in Kokanee ridge (shown on route).

I have heard this called Roscoe's a lot so I am rolling with that name.

This is obviously steep and can have some wind affect / cornices and does slide.

An alternative route is to ski down to the Catcher's Mitt and gain the old catskiing road on Kokanee ridge.

It is a little longer of a climb but it is a great walk and worth it if you are concerned about overhead hazard on Roscoe's.

There are also some fun short tree skiing lines from the old cat road.

From Roscoe's walk along Kokanee Ridge to the summit.

There is a little route finding and depending on hazards (cornices on north side of ridge or avalanche hazards on south face) you may choose to stick to the ridgeline or cut into the south face of Kokanee bowl to gain the summit.

Beware of cornices when you gain the ridgelines between the two peaks.

Gain either the North peak or Kokanee proper climber's right, take a selfie, have some lunch and enjoy the view.

There are a lot of great ski lines to lap up here but to start from Kokanee Peak N, you can drop fall-line into Montana bowl for some great shaded turns.

You can walk N down the ridgeline for a second entrance.

Once again this is heavily corniced in the winter.

Beyond the second entrance lies the Gunbarrels which are a steep barrel of laughs and fun on a good day but can go really badly in the wrong conditions.

Follow the Catcher's mitt home or head up for another lap!
