Description

Cycling is a popular way to get around in Sun Valley, for both locals and visitors.

Minor roads are generally bike friendly, and a network of paved paths connect the towns so that highway riding isn’t needed.

The loop mapped here connects Ketchum, the community of Elkhorn, and the Sun Valley Lodge using dedicated paths that are separate from the roads.

Therefore it’s a safe and easy ride that you can take at your own pace, and enjoy stops along the way if you wish. Over the course of the ride you’ll go all the way around Dollar Mountain, which is the smaller zone of Sun Valley Resort.

You’ll pass through neighborhoods and golf courses, but also gaze across open prairie at distant mountaintops.

You’ll see the Big Wood river, the lake at Sun Valley, and the trickling Elkhorn Creek.

In mid June the wildflowers are on peak display, and in late September the leaves turn their colors. As mapped here, the loop starts and ends near the Ketchum town square.

You could easily customize the route to start from a different point, to include some bars or restaurants, or connect with a nearby trailhead.

Part of this loop is on the Wood River Trail, which extends north-south through Ketchum and can be ridden all the way to Hailey or farther. Source: https://summertrailink.bcrd.org/sunvalleytrailelkhornpathelkhornketchumloop.php
