Description

A quintessential Zermatt trail, where within the same 30 seconds you can awe at Matterhorn views, have a marmot scream at you before running for the hills and get your knee licked by one of the fluffballs endemic to Valais – the Schwarznasenchaf. Let's add to this cliche by beginning in Furi – situated above Zermatt and boasting spectacular views of Breithorn and home to the Zermatt Rösterei – the alps highest altitude coffee roastery.

The panoramic 8km round starts with a gentle uphill on the back streets towards Biel, before crossing over the dam for the biggest ascent.

After the short climb, pause for a moment to absorb the views: the Matterhorn stands to your back and the village of Zmutt now appears far below.

Float over flowing single trail in the direction of Zermatt on the gentle descent before making a sharp right turn down to Zmutt – a tiny swiss hamlet surrounded by meadows of wildflowers in the summer and mountains all year round! Drop down to the bridge and cross the river, heading back towards Furi.

A must-stop is the Michelin Bib Gourmand – Aroleid Restaurant, serving Zermatt Rösterei coffee and a delectable menu created by internationally renowned chef & owner – Marián Podola.
