Description

It doesn't always take a long hike to get to a great ski line, and this is a great example of that.

At the entrance of the valley you can find the “resort” where you can enjoy small adventures for different levels of skiing.

From beginner runs to strict chutes between big rocks like this classic route (which as a south slope keeps very good snow conditions) there's something for everyone here. The access to the valley is open, however for now only the parking lot located at the gate of the La Engorda Bridge is available, so you have to walk to the start of the road.

To request vehicular access to Alto Maipo and avoid walking on the vehicular road, you should send an e-mail to ParqueArenas@gmail.com. The route starts from the parking lots near Alto Maipo on the left side (west) to the Arenas Valley.

In the valley you will have to cross the river, and where you do so will depend on the snow conditions.

If the snow is not thick enough or you want to avoid crossing the river you can choose the access 1 km further down at Alto Maipo, where you can find a vehicular road.

Passing the river, the most direct way to get up is going around the hill.

When you get on the hill, go down through the cornice - where it is recommended to keep to the right to enjoy the powdery areas - and also you can choose to go inside the chute that may have ice only in the first meters. At the end of the ride you can take advantage of the fact that you are immersed in the valley and return to enjoy this great descent or simply end the skiing tour and return by the same road by which you came in.
