Description

Breckenridge allows uphill access in the mornings, from 6am to resort opening time (typically 8:30).

This route on Peak 8 earns a respectable 2200 feet of vertical if you take it to the top, with the last several hundred feet on the steep and often icy Pika trail.

The endpoint is above Horseshoe Bowl, on the shoulder of Peak 8 and way above the treeline.

It’s an epic spot to stand as sunrise hits the Tenmile Range. The start point mapped here is Stables Garage, which allows free parking from 6-8:30am with an uphill access permit.

If no spots are available there, you might start from farther away, at North Gondola parking or elsewhere in town.

Breckenridge requires an uphill permit for access, but these are free as of the 2021/22 season.

See their [uphill access policy](https://www.breckpark.com/uphill-access-permit) for more information and how to get a pass.
