Description

Approach: - Start at Cwm Idwal visitor centre - Head SE out of the visitor centre and follow the path that crosses the outlet of Llyn Idwal - Follow path that runs parallel to the E edge of Llyn Idwal until you reach the buttress Description: - Scramble up the buttress starting where the quartz band meets the path - Once on top of buttress continue over a rightward rising rib until underneath a distinctive notch in the skyline - Continue up, cutting through a quartz band until you emerge in Cwm Cnefion - Head SE across the Cwm avoiding hidden drops and crossing a stream (good place to refill water bottles) - Move across the loose scree field in a S direction until Tower Rib comes into view (distinctive square shaped ridge in skyline) - Climb up the ridge until you reach the summit of the Glyderau plateau.

Near the end to Yr Gribin ridge. Descent: - Option 1: head W to summit of Glyder Fawr and follow path that heads down towards Llyn Y Cwn then head NE following a path that brings you down through Devils Kitchen into Cwm Idwal - From here follow path around Llyn Idwal back to visitor centre - Option 2: head N down Yr Gribin ridge - At base turn in a NW direction to rejoin path around Llyn Idwal and follow it back to the visitor centre. *I recommend carrying an OS map of the area (OL17 scale 1 :25000) *I also recommend carrying '50 best scrambles in North Wales' by Garry Smith with in depth descriptions of mountaineering routes *Ropes and climbing equipment can be carried but I have done both and it doesn't really make a difference to me.
