Description

Located on Lamma Island, the Lamma Island Family Trail is a short ferry ride away from Hong Kong’s city centre.

Paved, mostly flat paths make this leisurely walk an accessible one for the whole family, even if you’re traveling with pushchairs.

The trail is reversible, so simply choose your starting point, and there is a ferry available on either end. Begin by catching the ferry from Central to Yung Shue Wan Village on Lamma Island.

En route to the trail, grab last-minute provisions from one of the small shops as you walk through the main street of the village.

Follow the well-marked path and watch as verdant jungle soon takes over once you leave the village.

As you walk, stop and notice the undisturbed sounds of the countryside.

Lamma Island is a car-free island, leaving nature alone to take its course.

Surrounded by leafy trees at times and open expanses with stunning views of the sea at other times, the trail winds around the island, giving you diverse outlooks along the way.

Stop for a cooling dip in the sea at Hung Shing Yeh Beach if the kids are keen for a paddle. As you near Sok Kwu Wan, you’ll come across the marked Kamikaze Caves.

It’s said Japanese soldiers hid speedboats in them to launch against allied ships during World War II.

If you and the kids are feeling adventurous, take a few steps into the open caves for a change of scenery. Near the end of the trail, you’ll arrive at the Tin Hau Temple.

If the adults are feeling cultural, take a moment here to step inside the temple and smell the incredible incense.

Once in Sok Kwu Wan, take the whole family out for a well-deserved seafood meal in one of the many incredible seafood restaurants dotted across the shoreline.

Whichever side of Lamma Island you end up on, there is a ferry that will take you back to Central via a very scenic sail.
