Description

Known for being one of Hong Kong’s most popular hikes, the Dragon’s Back Hike is easily accessible via public transport, easy to do with kids, and offers scenic views of Shek O and Hong Kong Island’s lush south side.

Far away from skyscrapers and city noises, this loop hike is a fun beginners-level one with dirt trails, meandering paths, and stunning high vantage points — without the extra effort.

There are a few steps and tight and rocky sections, so it’s not recommended to bring a pushchair on this hike.

It certainly wouldn’t be a smooth ride! Follow the undulating path that takes you through tree-covered trails until you reach the top.

From here, you’ll have breathtaking views for the rest of the way.

To the east, you see the white sand Shek O Beach and its small fishing village, and to the northwest, you see the rest of the Dragon’s Back trail.

The clearly marked trail, nestled between bursting green trees and bushes, perfectly follows the rolling ridge of the mountain.

Stop at one of the lookouts to rest and relax and to enjoy panoramic views of the South China Sea, outlying islands, and hidden bays.

Once you’re back at your starting point, hop onto a bus, and head to Shek O.

Enjoy a meal at one of its relaxed restaurants or buy a boogie board from one of the street vendors, and enjoy the rest of the day with your family at the beach.
