Description

This shaded, undulating hike is a perfect introduction to hiking for little ones.

It’s not too long, too steep, or too tricky to master.

The Pok Fu Lam Reservoir loop hike winds around one side of Hong Kong’s first reservoir, the Pok Fu Lam Reservoir, before looping back through the foothills of the mountain, so you have a perfect blend of manmade structures and lush nature.

Just a stone’s throw away from the bustling city, this hike is easily accessible by public transport yet offers a breath of fresh air above the metropolis.

Given its slightly rolling course, with a few inclines, and at times a dirt track, it’s not recommended to bring a pushchair on this hike.

From bubbling streams and bursting woodlands to granite masonry bridges and even some wildlife — watch out for the porcupines and wild boars that sometimes roam these tracks — there’s plenty of beauty along this path to keep the kids entertained.

Begin the leisurely walk alongside the historic reservoir, passing the former watchman’s cottage right at the start.

At the higher points of the trail, magnificent views of Lamma Island surrounded by shimmering sea open up to the west.

This countryside hike is just the ticket for a quick getaway from the city and a beautiful nature infusion for the kids — and the adults!
