Mores Mountain is the summit adjacent to Bogus Basin, located just outside the patrolled resort.

With natural snow at a similar elevation to Shafer Butte, but with none of the crowds, it's a tantalizing backcountry objective.

There are many lines to be skied on this mountain when the snow is good enough, but the most accessible is the one shown here.

It’s a quick jaunt to the top of the mountain and a tranquil ski down, through low-angle meadows and natural glades.

This quick tour is perfect for finding fresh tracks, or just for adding some variety to your day at the resort. Get there by exiting the resort at backcountry gate #3 off the run called Majestic.

You will want to have a touring setup with skins, but hiking could be an option if you’re really determined.

A beacon and other safety gear are always recommended when leaving patrolled terrain, but on the tour shown here, avalanche hazard is virtually nonexistent.

Other hazards do exist, though, and help is not close by, so use caution. From the backcountry gate, you’ll first skin along some flats, over a groomed Nordic track, and through the summer trailhead area.

There will likely be a skin track to follow as you go up through a series of meadows.

It’s a beautiful setting of tall firs and young aspens amid fields of untouched snow.

The slope gets steeper as you get higher, and eventually, the summit appears as a bald knoll up ahead.

Once on top, you’ll look out over an expanse of mountains and feel far away from the resort.

When you’re ready, turn and enjoy the cruise back down.

The angle is enough to make fast turns in places and sustained enough to glide all the way back to the summer trailhead.

From there, you’ll likely switch to uphill mode again to reach the resort bounds.
