Description

Starting on the south east shored of Buttermere, you’ll take a spin up the generally fairly quiet road towards Honister pass.

Surrounded by a steep-sided valley, this is a pleasant ride with dramatic views until you hit the last quarter where the road steepens to 25%.

Once you reach Honister (which has a decent cafe) the offroad begins towards the shoulder of Fleetwith pike, where you can stay in either Dubs Hut (which now has a fireplace fitted) or chance it and head to Warnscale bothy.

Be warned however, this bothy is very small and popular.

After you’ve had an amazing night in the mountains, make sure you eat your weetabix because the downhill is a never-ending rock garden.

Although ridable on any bike, it’s hard going so your wrists may thank you if you have a longer travel rig.

Finish up with a dip in Buttermere before heading back to the village for some hearty grub.
