Description

This out-and-back coastal hike links two of the best beaches in north-western Tasmania and takes you through the edge of the stunning Rocky Cape National Park.

You’ll marvel at views of the rugged coast, rolling green hills, an expansive aqua blue sea, and pristine white sand beaches.

Taking its name from the route used for horseback postal deliveries early this century, this coastal track is bookended by the glorious Boat Harbour and Sisters Beaches. With reversible trailheads, the route in this guidebook starts from the breathtaking and peaceful seaside hamlet of Boat Harbour.

A little note of caution: The track is subject to tidal conditions, with sections of the walk becoming impassable during high tide.

At low tide, you can have some real fun rock hopping along the water’s edge.

Just keep an eye out for the sometimes-unruly waves. One of the best parts of this trail is that you’ll encounter few people along the way.

It’ll feel like you’re on the edge of the world, overlooking the boundless pastel-coloured sea, and that you have it all to yourself.

The open path offers breezy and scenic views of the sea to the north and the verdant hills of the National Park to the south.

The hike will take you over grassy, rocky, pebbly and earth tracks, offering you diverse and exciting options along the way.

You’ll be accompanied by a winding coastline with undulating tree-covered hills, rocky outcrops, and white-crested waves crashing into the cliffs and beaches.

Take a halfway break to swim and relax on Sisters Beach before returning the way you came, with the added benefit of ending your hike with a dip in the sea from Boat Harbour.

Tuck into a well-deserved fish and chips from Seekers Bar and Café right on the beachfront, rounding off your excellent day out.
