Description

Nub Peak has some of the most Iconic viewpoints in Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park.

This loop not only takes in the picturesque alpine lakes, but also includes all the best viewpoints, including the Nublet and Niblet.

The most common way to summit Nub Peak is to complete it as an out and back hike via the descent route shown here.

That's a good route for parties heading to the lower viewpoints, but if your goal is to summit Nub Peak, then in my opinion this is a much better route. This is much more scenic trail and is the shortest route to the summit.

That does mean it's a little steeper in places, but it's a faster and more efficient route, allowing you plenty of time to enjoy the stunning views on the longer descent. The trail starts at Lake Magog Campground and leads you to the picturesque Sunburst and Cerulean lakes.

On a calm day the surrounding peaks perfectly reflect into these lakes, which makes for some fantastic pictures. Once you hit Elizabeth Lake, don't follow the well-defined trail, that is for Chuck's Ridge.

There is a lightly defined trail heading around the Lake which becomes more defined when you start to head up the ridge.

This ridge does look like a huge challenge when you start heading up it, but don't despair.

It's smaller than it looks and it's a straightforward ascent to the summit from the top. The views from the ridge line are magnificent and they continue all the way up to the Peak.

This area is much more peaceful than some of the other viewpoints, which you will soon find out when you start the descent.

The decent follows the ridge line all the way back down to Lake Magog.

This is an incredibly scenic hike with stunning views the entire way down.

You pass through the Nublet and the Niblet on the way down which are both great viewpoints overlooking Lake Magog and Mt Assiniboine.

Expect some crowds here though, as they are extremely popular.

This is one of the best hikes Mt Assiniboine Provincial Park, and definitely one you don't want to miss.
