Description
Of the many tours in the region, the Val di Roda is definitely a must-do if you are staying in San Martino for a short holiday period or you frequently visit the area.
This tour is a 100% dive into the magical landscapes that these amazing architectures called Dolomites have to offer: endless valleys and couloirs surrounded by high and imposing rocky walls which - when the fresh snow comes down and sticks on them - create some fascinating shapes. The access to this line is - as many of the touring lines in the San Martino di Castrozza area - through the Rosetta Hut.
To get here, a chairlift and the Rosetta cableway will make the climb a matter of 15 minutes only.
When at the top station of the cableway it’s just about putting your skins on your skis, adjust your poles a bit longer, switch your boots into touring mode and then start traversing the plateau heading south-west.
The entrance of the valley is not far, but orientating on this plateau is not always easy: the snow dunes don’t allow you having a clear sight around - following the GPX track will be really helpful here.
Once at the top, it’s a fun ride down the valley until bumping into a small hut - which is normally closed in winter times.
From here there a second short climb where skins are needed again before then entering a last line which - through a couloir - leads all the way down to the valley.
The way out, depending to the current season, might require some walking at the bottom due to lack of snow: this won’t make the tour less exciting - guaranteed!
