Description

The east side of Mores Mountain holds some of the most compelling terrain, with steeper sustained shots among generously spaced trees and boulders.

You will want to wait for ample snow to cover the rocks and brush, but the northeast exposure can keep things in good condition for a while.

Avalanches, though uncommon, are definitely possible in this terrain so be sure to use proper safety checks and equipment. Get there by leaving Bogus bounds at backcountry gate #3 and skinning toward the top of Mores.

You’ll go through the summer trailhead area, then up through a series of steepening meadows until reaching the top.

Mores has two summits, and you’ll aim for the one to the east (climber’s right).

Go over the top and continue out the down-sloping ridge, which will likely have some cornices and rocks to negotiate.

Don’t forget to look outward and enjoy the horizon of Idaho mountains that includes the Sawtooths in the distance. From the ridge, you’ll pick your place to drop in.

Anywhere can be good depending on conditions, and you can take your pick from casual to more engaging lines.

The track mapped here is one of the more obvious choices down a fairly open face.

There’s a hiking trail traversing at about 6650 feet which makes a good place to stop, though it’s possible to ski a lot farther down.

You’ll want to pay attention because if a skin track is not already laid, this trail can be easy to miss.

Use the trail to skin southward, back to the Mores saddle and into the resort.
