Description

After a number of challenging days to reach Jonas Cutoff, this is a good opportunity to get some rest before the final hike to Jasper.

This trail is entirely below the treeline, but there are some good openings in the trees which have great views as you make your way towards Pobokton.

As this is a short day and it's mostly downhill, there's no need for an early start here.

This route will only take around 4 hours to complete.

If you are one of the lucky people who is able to book Avalanche Campground, then it's well worth continuing on and making that your overnight stop, as that is the preferable route.

Only 1 party per day can book Avalanche Campground, so the chances are you will have to stay at Pobokton before heading onto the 6 Passes trail.

You will pass by one other campground before arriving at Pobokton, which is Waterfalls campground.

This is a great place to stop for lunch and - as the name suggests - there are some stunning waterfalls here.

The entire trail between these two campgrounds is very well maintained and it's the same trail many people use for the Brazeau Loop, which is another awesome backcountry trip in this area.

We've got a guidebook to that area as well elsewhere in FATMAP. Poboktan campground is a small backcountry campground.

It's in a very sheltered location tucked away in the forest, but it is also right next to the creek, which allows for some fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. If you are not looking to head all the way to Jasper or are hiking the Brazeau Loop, you could use this day to exit the trail and make it back to the Pobokton Trailhead.

It's not much further and it's all downhill.
