Description

The Flagstaff Loop is the ultimate long run in town to explore the city's diverse and ever-evolving network of singletrack and shared-use pathways.

While it's often described as a "work in progress," the current route totals around 45 miles and includes a modest 3,700-feet of vertical gain throughout.

In perspective, the 10-mile round-trip to [Humphreys Peak](https://fatmap.com/routeid/2882679/humphreys-peak/) includes about the same amount. With no major climbs or peaks to summit, this circuit is a hot topic in the ultrarunning community and the focus of those in search of their next FKT (Fastest Known Time).

As of 2022, the supported and unsupported times for men are just over 6-hours, while the female supported records range from 7 to 11 hours.

The loop is also subject to change as the route improves, so know that this mapped version may not constitute the exact mileage needed to attempt an FKT.

Those looking to do so should consider visiting [fastestknowntime.com](https://fastestknowntime.com/route/flagstaff-loop-trail-az) for the most recent route variations. Unique to this run, there is no defined starting point.

Numerous road crossings make it easy to pick the loop up just about anywhere, though the trailheads on the west side of Highway 89 tend to be the most popular.

That said, they add a bit of mileage and can be crowded during peak times of the year.

As such, we've mapped the route from US-180 on the north side of Interstate 40.

Whether traveling east or west, the small gravel pull-out is easy to reach and offers joint access to the Arizona Trail.

There are no restrooms or facilities nearby, however, so plan accordingly.
