Description

Conveniently located off of Interstate 17, Kelly Pocket is a classic Northern Arizona trail ride known for an abundance of rock cliffs and unique sandstone formations.

Halfway between Flagstaff and Sedona, you'll enjoy a unique mixture of terrain lined with views as you ride through beautiful pine forests along what [hikearizona.com](https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=21642) considers one of the easier trails in the area.

Whether you're a long-time local or just traveling through, this short ride should make it onto any adventurer's list. Designed and built by mountain bikers, the ride offers features including ramps and jumps, a pleasant surprise considering the amount of rugged backcountry riding you'll find north of town.

If you're not in a rush, it's suggested by many to explore the canyon on foot as well, as the slower pace may allow you to enjoy the unique sandstone features and rocks near the confluence of Kelly Canyon and Pumphouse Wash near the lowest part of the trail. While you could ride this as an out-and-back, the more common way to enjoy Kelly Canyon is as a loop paired with an adjacent forest service road.

Parking is available at Raymond Park along the Interstate, and restrooms and water are available through the warmer months.

Should you have the time or be looking for a similar ride in the area, the [Soldier Trail](https://fatmap.com/routeid/2886135/soldier-trail/) at Fort Tuthill is just one exit north on the Interstate and offers an equally scenic ride with much less climbing.
