Description

While the Solider Trail may not be a destination-worthy ride in Northern Arizona, it's an absolute favorite amongst locals and a great area to explore once you've hit other Flagstaff and Sedona classics.

Circling Fort Tuthill, this 5ish-mile loop winds through shadowy forests and meadows and climbs less than 400-feet as it winds its way around the county park.

Minutes from I-17 and only a short drive from town, this short ride is one that shouldn't be overlooked.

On top of the groomed singletrack, you'll enjoy plenty of spring and summer wildflowers, and "you may get lucky by spotting wild turkeys, deer, or elk grazing nearby," according to [this source](https://rootsrated.com/flagstaff-az/trail-running/soldier-s-trail-running). For those looking for a longer or shorter day on the trail, the Soldier Trail is a great loop to build upon if you want to change up the ride a bit.

While the Bridge Trail offers a cut-off about halfway through the loop, the Highland Trail adds nearly 4-miles of more technical riding for those up to the challenge.

That said, the main loop "has some rocky spots and some short steep sections, but is generally beginner-friendly," according to [this source](https://rootsrated.com/flagstaff-az/trail-running/soldier-s-trail-running). As one of the easier places to enjoy the outdoors near town, the park is frequented by runners, hikers, and mountain bikers alike.

It's a great area to explore with the family and a great trail to introduce newer riders to mountain biking.

The park also hosts stables, a ropes course, gear shop, and other amenities, making it a popular destination, no matter what you're into.
