Description

Despite the name trail, the proper Huntington Ravine Trail is not the best way to get to Huntington Ravine, though people make the mistake of going this way every year.

For a faster and smoother entry, skin up the Tuckerman Ravine Trail until the second bridge.

Break right when you see signs for the Harvard Cabin, and begin following the Huntington Ravine Fire Road across a long flat section, follow the wide trail around switchbacks, a few bridges and one stream crossing (can be buried or exposed depending on the season) Eventually the fire road terminates into trees and boulders and the summer hiking trail can be hard to impossible to stay on, so find the path of least resistance and make your way towards the fan.

I like to take skins off here as opposed to skinning the fan, so I don’t have to transition on a steep slope under avalanche paths and falling ice hazard.

Put your crampons on here and choose your gully, or you may opt to ski the fan or just turn around at the boulders.

Ski back through the trees and pick up the fire road, this has room for tight turns, it's about as wide as the TRT.

Be aware that unlike the Sherburne Trail, hikers may be coming up this way.

Skate along one final flat section and rejoin the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, ski slow down the TRT until you cross the bridge, then look for a crossover to skiers right you can use to join the Sherb.
