Description

The Petrified Dunes form one of the most intriguing natural features in Snow Canyon State Park.

On this short hike, you'll depart from a trailhead in the center of the state park and walk out to the petrified dunes, which are now "wide-open rolling rock hills covered with curving ridges," according to Lana Law on [PlanetWare.com](https://www.planetware.com/utah/top-rated-hikes-near-st-george-utah-us-ut-59.htm). Once you reach the rock slabs, the route line in the map is more of a suggestion than an actual itinerary.

In fact, the exact route isn't well-marked, either.

You can choose to hike around and explore this incredible natural formation as long as you make sure to hike only on the impervious rock surface.

This free-form hiking and exploration are especially popular with kids, making the Petrified Dunes a great hike for the whole family. From the elevated rock domes, you'll enjoy beautiful vistas across the valley, with vertical rock cliffs and mountain ranges off in the distance.

Be sure to bring your phone or camera to capture the incredible scenery! Sources: https://www.planetware.com/utah/top-rated-hikes-near-st-george-utah-us-ut-59.htm https://hikestgeorge.com/hiking-trails/petrified-dunes-snow-canyon-state-park/
