Description

This is one of if not the most popular tours within the Tamokdalen Valley.

With the slopes being Northeast this bowl gets loaded by the winds offering some of the deeper conditions you can find around.

Since this tour is the back bowl just above the hut the proximity and access is hard to beat.

Put that together with a lot of space within the upper bowl and riding to within a few minutes of the hut it is obvious why this tour is so popular. Leaving the Tamokhuset make your way up the cut out ski runs until you reach a bench just below the massive alpine slopes above.

From here look for a summer road on the lookers right and follow it until past the bridge and start climbing.

Working with the slopes you can make a gradual skin track until nearly reaching the shores of the upper alpine lake.

Once there you need to make your way up a convex slope to gain the upper Northeast bowl.

Make sure to space out as this section can slide and should be ascended one at a time. Once in the upper bowl you are in powder heaven as you make switchbacks up the lookers right gully until reaching the high ridge.

Standing on top you have two main options being the gully to the left or with a quick skin the gully to the right.

Knowing that there was good snow we rode the left line until just above the convex slopes where we transitioned and lapped this area a few times. When it is time to ride into the valley there is another steep convex slope on the skiers right side.

Once in the lower terrain make your way loosely along the skiers left side of the gully before hitting tree line.

Once there look around enough and you will spot a summer road which will take you all the way to the Tamokhuset road.

After a ten minute walk along the road you are back to your car and celebrating some deep powder turns. While this ski tour would be fine in corn conditions it is at its best with deep powder.

Just be cautious of the lower convex slopes. For more photos and information on the route check out this link https://www.whereiskylemiller.com/tamokdalen/istinden-tamokhuset/
