Description

Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve is home to a fantastic hike that serves up two different 12-foot waterfalls along Austin Creek.

The route mapped here runs 2.6 miles round-trip and is focused on the two waterfalls, but there's more than 6 miles of trails in the preserve. This 4,500-acre multi-use park is "dog- and family-friendly," [according to WTA.org](https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/lookout-mountain-forest-preserve).

And unlike many other trails in the region, bikes aren't allowed here, so you can enjoy a quiet bicycle-free hike. The walking along these trails is all quite easy and non-technical, making it perfect for the entire family.

The trail surface can get slick when wet, but other than that, there are relatively few technical obstacles. When you spot the falls, be sure to stop and soak in the majestic grandeur of the cascading water! The falls are best viewed in the springtime when the water levels are highest.
