Description

The Hazelton Trail meanders through the valley between the Gondola and the Quad.

It has many tricky sections that have very little room for turns.

Despite its difficulty, the Hazelton Trail is a very popular route that many people ski each winter.

The traditional summer hiking trail goes across the brook and up through the Nosedive Glades.

So the winter route only follows the trail for the bottom half.

You begin right before Lower Rimrock meets Perry Merrill.

From here you drop into a cut glade with an obvious entrance.

This evergreen glade is fairly spacious with a few good jumps, soon you’ll drop into a dip and cross a river gully.

This may require some sidestepping.

Now the fun begins, right after you start seeing blue blazes, you are funneled onto a narrow ridge.

So narrow you can’t even hockey stop, with trees to both sides.

You are forced to straight line until the ridge dips back down into the valley.

For the rest of the run, you are following the path of the hiking trail.

When the woods get more deciduous you can venture out a little more, but don’t stray to far from the blue blazes.

The trail ends on Lower Perry Merrill.
