Description

One of the most popular hikes in Queenstown, the hike up to Queenstown Hill is accessible throughout the year to most levels of hikers, and boasts some fabulous views of Queenstown, Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables.

Starting out from downtown Queenstown, this well-maintained trail climbs up Queenstown Hill towards the Basket of Dreams - a sculpture created for Queenstown's Millennium project.

Although the end of the 'official' trail, another ten minutes takes you to the top of Queenstown Hill, with its view over the Remarkables Mountain Range.

There are a number of further trails in the area - Sugar Loaf peak is another 15 minutes further along - or it's a straight hike back down into town. Allow a couple of hours for the 8km hike, but factor in plenty of time to enjoy the views.

The trail is open year-round, but make sure you take appropriate clothing as weather in the area can be changeable.
