Description

Corral Pass is one of those ski tours that you come up with when finally bored of the Crystal Mountain Backcountry and want to try something different.

Is it any better?? in my opinion no but it is nice to have options so I will write about my experience ski touring up in this rarely explored area. Leaving the Silver Springs Road you will soon find yourself at the base of the Corral Pass road.

You want to be here pretty early in the Spring Season as by the time the road melts out so does the skiing.

Parking at the bottom of the road keep ascending until you find an open alpine bowl on the lookers right side.

While this area has pretty short runs it is more than enough to keep you busy for the day. Making your way West up the main drainage and soon enough you will arrive on the ridge.

Head north to get up to the high point before descending one of numerous chutes back down the skin track.

When we were there it was late spring and these slopes were quite icy so we decided for the next run we would ride the semi open south facing slopes for a few hundred feet.

While the slopes were nice once again the snow was terrible so we decided to cut our losses and do one final run down the main chutes before riding back down the road to the car.

Was it nice to mix things up….yes.

Would I do this trip again…..no Click here for a trip within the area and much more photos https://www.whereiskylemiller.com/crystal-mountain/corral-pass/
