Description

Starting at FNB Stadium, the route will take you along 97km of thrilling Joburg terrain that you get to own for a day! Cycle past Joburg’s most iconic landmarks through streets usually bustling with traffic and enjoy the City’s rich diversity from a radically different vantage point. The start/finish venue at FNB Stadium ensures easy access and safe parking.

This incredible venue lies at the heart of Joburg – the ideal base to explore the sprawling urban and suburban cityscapes. From the FNB Stadium, cyclists head out onto the Soweto highway for a brief loop, passing the well-known Joburg gold mine dumps, hugging Soweto before turning back towards Main Reef Road. Revel in the spectacular cityscapes as the route flows onto the M1 S (cycling in a northerly direction).

For 3 km, the backmarkers will be able to catch a glimpse of the racing categories jostling for position as they race towards the finish.

From here, riders will join the M1 – a speedy set of undulating downhills towards Woodmead. You will head up to Kyalami for an exclusive opportunity to zip around the world-renowned race track before turning onto Main Road.

The first proper ascent comes on this stretch of road as riders climb up Main Road to Witkoppen Road, where the King/Queen of the Mountain will be decided. The latter half of the route through suburban Joburg is quite hilly, but the views of leafy tree-lined streets are well worth the effort. As you approach the last 15km, you will cross the iconic Nelson Mandela bridge before turning back onto the M1 and passing Gold Reef City on your right.

At this point, you will catch glimpses of the FNB Stadium, which marks the last section of your exhilarating ride.

The finish will be on Nasrec Road, where you will be directed into FNB stadium for a hero’s welcome and hearty hospitality.
