Day 4: Traverse of Blanc de Moming then to the Mountet Hut

FATMAP difficulty grade

For many this is the highlight of the week.

You skin up in the shadow of the mighty Weisshorn to the Blanc de Moming, then traverse the Arete du Blanc before a final spring ski descent to the hut.

In the event of bad weather it can be avoided by descending to the valley floor, then skinning up to the Mountet Hut. From the hut take a gentle descending traverse L aiming for the small traverse beneath, then onto, the glacier, beyond the ice cliffs that you briefly pass beneath.

This is at about 2700m and allows you to access the far side of the glacier beneath the peak of Besso.

Continue up here to about 3200m where you traverse E on the Glacier de Moming Plateau, before heading back SW at about 3300m, to gain a col a short way before a final skin to the summit of Blanc de Moming at 3657m.

Retrace your tracks to the col then follow the impressively sharp Arete du Blanc, which undulates until the Arete meets the shoulder of the Glacier du Mountet.

From here descend the R side of the glacier until you can cross the lateral moraine and drop down to the Mountet Hut at 2886m.
