The Hütteneck is one of the loveliest locations in the Salzkammergut. There are old, rustic mountain huts, and breath-taking panoramic views across the entire Dachstein Salzkammergut holiday region.

Description

The best place to begin your walk is the car park by the Predigstuhl mountain inn, which is accessible via a 6 km long toll-free panoramic road.

When you reach the roundabout at Bad Goisern, follow signs for the Roßmoosalm, which is about 30 minutes' walk.

Along the way there are delightful views towards Lake Hallstatt and the impressive Dachstein massif to the south.

Leaving the huts behind, we reach the Muschelstein in about 15 minutes.

We are reminded that the entire Dachstein Salzkammergut region lay beneath the Parathetys Sea in prehistoric times.

At the end of a slightly steeper section we reach the so-named Zwerchwand Steinbruch.

Children always have a lot of fun here climbing among the huge boulders.

By the time we leave this quarry, we have already completed most of our tour.

The Hütteneckalm is just a further 15 minutes' walk.

Now we can take a well-earned rest on the large sun terrace and admire stunning views of the entire region whilst enjoying some famous Kaiserschmarrn (local sweet delicacy).

After we have finished our meal (or enjoyed watching the sunset), we can re-trace our steps to the car park at the Predigstuhl mountain inn, or alternatively, follow the Rehmöser forestry road which also leads to the car park.
