Description

Having recovered from the nerve-wracking flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, compose yourself, get your porters and crew organised and begin the long and wonderful journey to Everest.

The route follows a wide and well travelled track with some sections of cobbled steps and some suspension bridges. Walk north out of Lukla on the wide and follow the well travelled path - which undulates through countless villages and goes across some fun suspension bridges - to reach Phakding in roughly 2 hours.

There is a total height loss of 200 metres over the course of the hike but in reality the path is constantly climbing and descending so although short, the hike feels like plenty for a first day.

There are numerous places to stop for a drink on the way to Phakding and you should have plenty of time to take in the sights and sounds of the Himalayan foothills.
