The Cuillins of Skye are legendary, and are widely considered to make up one of, if not the, finest single mountain range in the UK.

The traverse along their tops is certainly one of the most sought after mountaineering objectives in the country. Despite the spectacular topography of the Cuillins, there are still some easier walks for mere mortals who don't want to tackle the Inaccessible Pinnacle or any of other tough peaks in the region.

The trip to Fairy Pools and down Coire na Creiche is such a walk. Fairy Pools themselves are a series of crystal clear pools right beneath the jagged summits of the Cuillins, fed by an amphitheatre of cascading waterfalls.

The path up to them, from the Glen Brittle road, is mainly good but brief sections of it can be boggy in all but the driest conditions.

Once at the pools, find a comfortable spot to sit and soak it all in - there can't be many finer spots for reflection than this.

Even if you're feeling extremely brave, you might also consider taking a dip in the pools....! It's possible to return to Glen Brittle same way but a much better option is to traverse the lower slopes of Bruach na Frithe towards the rocky bulk of Sgurr an Fheadain.

This traverse is utterly wonderful and has a high mountain feel far out of proportion from its relatively mellow terrain. Having reached the toe of Sgurr an Fheadain's north-west ridge, descend down Coire na Creiche past a series of little waterfalls back to Glen Brittle.
