What else could we ask for? Parker Ridge is the perfect combo to appreciate what the Rockies have to offer.

Located on the Icefield Parkway in Banff National Park, this moderate hike will take you to a breathtaking view point on the Saskatchewan Glacier and also the foothills of the magnificent Mount Athabasca (3491 m).

A magical place between ice and summits that can be visited in just a few short hours without too much effort.

What are you waiting for? [DIRECTIONS] The trail is well marked and maintained.

The first part consists of reaching a large ridge where you will access several viewpoints.

The climb is moderate, about 250 m of elevation (814 ft) spread over 1.9 km (1.16 mi).

You will quickly leave the forest and find yourself in an Alpine environment; open terrain with great views all around you.

Once on the ridge, follow the same trail until you reach the first panorama of the Saskatchewan Glacier (see map) then continue until the end of the trail, about 900 m away. Retrace your steps and walk toward the highest point of the ridge, located on the left (while retracing your steps, so looking North).

At the top, you will be 2320 m high.

You will find a rock shelter to protect you from strong winds.

Here, the panorama is absolutely stunning! You can appreciate the valley of the Icefield Parkway on one side, the glacier on the other side, while being surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, such as Mount Athabasca (3491 m). Située le long de la Promenade des glaciers (Icefield Parkway) dans le Parc National de Banff, cette randonnée modérée t’emmenera au dessus du Saskatchewan Glacier avec en prime une vue sur l’imposant mont Athabasca (3491m).

Un endroit sauvage féérique entre glace et sommets qui se visite en quelques heures et sans trop d'efforts. [ITINÉRAIRE] La randonnée est très bien balisée et le sentier bien identifiable.

La première partie consiste à rejoindre la large crête sur laquelle tu pourras accéder à plusieurs points de vue.

La montée s’étends sur 1.9km (1.16mi) et te fera gravir environ 250 mètre de dénivelé (814 ft).

Tu sortiras rapidement des arbres pour atteindre un environnement alpin totalement dégagé.

Une fois sur la crête, tu peux continuer tout droit pour rejoindre un premier point de vue sur le Saskatchewan Glacier (voir carte) ou rejoindre la fin du sentier 900m (0.56 mi) plus loin.

Ce dernier apporte lui-aussi un panorama grandiose sur le glacier. Reviens ensuite sur tes pas et rejoins le plus haut point de vue de cette crête qui se situe sur la gauche (en revenant sur tes pas, donc en regardant vers le Nord).

Au sommet, à 2320m, se trouve un abris pour le vent.

Tu pourras de ce point culminant admirer une vue imprenable sur la vallée de la Promenade des Glaciers, et sur les écrasantes montagnes alentoures: Notamment sur le fameux Mont Athabasca (3491m). Le retour se fait par le même chemin, sur environ 2.3km.
