Description

Couloir-gully between Chenau valley and Châtillon. 350m mixed couloir very aesthetic and appreciated by skiers and mountaineers! The approach is done by ski from Col des Mosses.

The couloir is made of 7 pitches.

The beginning of the couloir (4 first pitches) is still quite wide and snowy while the second part of the couloir becomes more and more narrow and steep.

From 5th pitch the couloir becomes a narrow gully.

6th pitch is the key mixed length (M3), with 3 bolts.

Then 7th pitch, less steep and all snowy.

All pitches are well equipped.

Gradient between 50° and 70°, pitches between 40 and 50 m. The descent can be done by rappelling down in the couloir or, more interesting, by skiing down the east face of Châtillon in order to go back to the starting point (Col des Mosses). Equipment: 2 ice axes, crampons, 5 quickdraws, eventually 1-2 ice screws, and 2 friends/cams for the mixed pitch
