The Elephant couloir is a very satisfying line that we spotted during our first ascent to þerna summit in Grýtubakkahreppur area. The couloir offers two branches: we skied the left one, but the right can also be a beautiful line (see picture). The left branch of the couloir is easy to spot from the valley, and the ascent is straightforward. Ice axe and crampons needed.
Slope degree approx 40-45° - exposure is high as the couloir takes a few shifts and is exposed to rocks, but is wide enough to enjoy nice smooth turns.
