Description

Plan Ponquet, Col de Checrouit to Courmayeur.

There are several places you can start this leg.

If you are camping in Val Veny you can walk up the road from Perthud to Plan Ponquet (or take the bus if the road is really busy).

If you are staying in Courmayeur you need to take the bus from the Place de Monte Bianco to Plan Ponquet.

From Plan Ponquet it is 12km +650m/-900m if following the entire routing back to Courmayeur.

At Courmayeur you can get the bus back to your accommodation.

Alternatively, if you are self-driving and want an easy day admiring the views, then you can drive to Pre Pascal and complete the last section of the route up to Col Checrouit and back again.

This is about 5km with +/-200m of climbing.

Unfortunately the Dolonne telecabine is not large enough to accommodate the Quadrix wheelchair so there is no easy option.

The initial section from Plan Ponquet to Pre Pascal is on a tarmac road, which can be busy at the weekend.

From Pre Pascal you join a 4x4 track and stay on gravel tracks until you rejoin the tarmac in the outskirts of Courmayeur.

The climb and descent are fairly steep and steady, but the views are incredible.

There is a restaurant at Col Checrouit for lunch or a snack.
