A tricky line that seems like more alpine climb than ski until you're in the main couloir.

Description

From the summit ridge of Rethel, navigate down to the corner of this portion of the headwall while avoiding the cornice.

The initial pitch off the ridge may be navigable on skis or with a rappel or down climb.

This takes you to a shoulder with the couloir dropping off right below.

The top pitch of the couloir is narrow and with thin snow covered rock slab.

We used a 30m rappel to get into the wider portion of the couloir.

From here it's pleasant skiing down to the main Rethel Couloir fan.
