Description

At Niedergschwandt we begin to climb again in the direction of the Zwieselalm (first asphalt then forest road).

Just before the Kleinedtalm we again capture views of the Dachstein glacier “close up”; this time from the south side, and turn left up to the Hornspitz summit, which is accessible by cable car from Rußbach.

The heart of a "Downhiller" will now be beating faster as the ascent to Russbach begins on a narrow dirt road.

The terrain is varied as part of the route to Rußbach is along meadow trails.

From there we turn right on to the paved old road at first, and then join the confluence with the new road over the Gschütt Pass. At this point we have conquered the most strenuous sections of the route.

After joining the main road we continue downhill approx.

1 km, and after passing the landmark, bear left on to the forest road in the direction of the Iglmoosalm (a detour is worthwhile).

Pass through the village of Ramsau and return to the main road, cross it and turn immediately right again, first along meadow paths, then back to the main road parallel with the Gosaubach River.

After the first bridge over the river we bear right into the Gosau Leitenstraße.

From here we continue down to the shores of Lake Hallstatt. From the Gosauzwang junction turn left along the lakeshore towards Bad Goisern.

Pass through the community of Steeg and then turn right back to the starting point in St.

Agatha near Bad Goisern.
