Description

If you were to sit down and conjure in your imagination a vision of the perfect beginner-friendly singletrack ride, something like the Spur Line trails is likely to come to mind.

The singletrack in this trail system is narrow and swoopy, but there's nary a rock in sight.

Even so, the up-and-down undulations with perfectly-sculpted corners provide a fantastic kinesthetic ride experience that is sure to hook newbie riders and keep them coming back for more! The Spur Line trails offer a few views of the hills above, and if you pedal high enough into the system, you'll also enjoy a few views of the neighborhoods below.

This trail system is easily accessible from the Three Springs neighborhood outside the town of Durango, with local residents able to ride to the trailhead right from their front doors.

If you do have to drive, there's a fair amount of room to park at the trailhead, but the parking lot can fill quickly (even during the week). The Spur Line Trail System features a series of loops that can be added or subtracted based on how much mileage you want and how ambitious you're feeling.

The route shown here runs all the way out to the North Lollipop Loop before turning around and heading back.

For a shorter ride, you could pedal the Switcher and Rail Spike Loops, or if you have a little tike on a Strider bike, you could simply do the two-mile Switcher Loop for an ultra-easy mountain biking introduction.

And of course, you can head even deeper into the trail system than what's mapped here, although the trail difficulty will increase a bit depending on which segments you choose to ride. This fantastic trail system is the perfect place to get a new rider in the sport or an excellent option for anyone looking for some flowy, mellow miles on the bike!
