Description

For those looking for a solid workout coupled with some epic views and a fun, fast descent, look no further.

The fact that you'll encounter a fascinating historical site is a bonus. Begin in the charming village of Mezzolago and ride north up the main road which bissects the village.

The road is extremely steep at times so even before you reach the gravel section of this ride you'll have had a workout! Keep following the road until it becomes a gravel track and enters a forest. Stick with the track as it climbs and winds through wonderful quiet forests.

The trees provide some shade from the sun, which hits this ride all day long, so this is a good option on a warm day when you want to avoid looking like a lobster by the end of your ride! At times on the way up the views across Lago di Ledro reveal themselves but often you will also be surrounded by such dense trees that it's easy to forget where you are, and the reemergence of the lake can be something of a shock! Eventually, when you've done most of the climbing there is a long and beautiful traverse north-west to the World War 1 trenches which mark the end of this ride.

All the way along the traverse you are out of the trees and, with the top not too far away, you can savour your achievement.

Upon reaching the trenches take some time to look around and explore.

There is an information board in Italian and German so if you speak either of those 2 languages you will be able to read a little about the history of the spot.

Once you're done with history and views, strap in for a fast ride down.

Even the final section of road back down to the village is fast and furious so enjoy every second - you've earned it!
