Description

In a strong field, this is likely the best multi hour hike that can be done from the Tremalzo Pass.

The views throughout are spectacular and even in the height of summer the trail is generally quiet and peaceful.

Park at the Tremalzo Pass and then descend on foot the road you drove up.

After a few hundred metres (just before the first hairpin) the road splits - go left and follow another (smaller) road that climbs north of the Cima del Dil peak.

The road soon turns into a jeep track as it traverses west beneath Monte Lavino and towards Cima Avéz.

The jeep track actually passes underneath Cima Avéz so the summit is optional, but if you have the energy and weather required, it is a detour well worth making.

The path to the top is clear but not as easy underfoot as the jeep track so a little more balance and precision is required.

The view from the top is utterly spectacular and reveals (as if it wasn't clear from the hike so far) just how vast and wild the Trentino region is. Having descended back to the jeep track follow it south until it zig zags down past some farm buildings and turns into an un-driveable (but still very clear and well maintained) path.

Stay on the path and descend all the way to another small building level with the summit of Punta Vesina.

At this point the path swings around and begins heading north, towards and then underneath some spectacular limestone cliffs. Traverse beneath these cliffs, past the Malga Cà da l'Era farmstay and then climb back up to the Tremalzo Pass on a good but occasionally rocky path.

There is a welcoming mountain refuge with a fabulous terrace at the col so grab a cold drink and toast a lovely hike.
