Description

The Pinhoti Trail is an epic-length point-to-point route running across northern Georgia and into Alabama.

One of the most renowned sections of the trail is popularly known as “Snake Creek Gap” due to the time trial race of the same name held on this section.

Technically, this 34-mile segment of the Pinhoti Trail runs roughly from Armuchee Gap to Dug Gap, passing through Snake Creek Gap along the way. The singletrack along this section of the Pinhoti Trail is steep and technical the entire way as it climbs mountain ridges and descends down the backside, only to repeat the process.

As riders progress along the route, “the course gets progressively more technical over the last 8 miles on Hurricane Mt.

and Rocky Face Ridge,” according to The-Snake.org.

"The trail runs right on the razor back edge of these mountains with views off both sides.

It is beautiful but you better not take time to enjoy the view.” While riders hailing from the Rocky Mountains might scoff at the claims of absurdly rocky singletrack that is so technical that it’s almost impossible to discern a line, the ridicule evaporates once they experience the trail for themselves.

Jumbled talus makes for a slightly absurd mountain biking experience—who thought this was a good idea?! And yet the talus is still, somehow, rideable—if only you can summon all of your line choice and technical handling faculties at the same time. Where rocks dominate the ridges, stream fords dominate the valleys.

Some of the stream fords are incredibly deep, forcing most riders to wade through up past their knees.

During the winter, these stream crossings can be absolutely frigid, so prepare accordingly.
