Description

The Montour Trail is a multi-use rail trail running through the southeastern suburbs of Pittsburgh in Allegheny and Washington counties.

While the section of the Montour Trail shown here is 48 miles long one-way, it can also be connected to other epic long-distance rail trails, such as the C&O trail that runs to DC.

The Montour Trail was recently honored as the “Best of PGH 2023” bike trail by the City Paper’s readers' poll, highlighting its growing popularity and improvements. Pittsburgh has been working to improve its rail trail network in recent years, and the Montour Trail has been the recipient of significant improvements.

In 2023, the renovation of the Greer Tunnel was completed.

The goal was to stabilize the entrance of the tunnel to make it safer for trail users. While this rail trail has been uploaded as a cycling route, it can be used by all manner of trail users, such as hikers, runners, dog walkers, and cyclists of all stripes.
