Description

This route is designed for both the novice and expert alike providing a route through the Glenshee ski area that offers an accessible but efficient ascent up Bucharts Coire to the col between Cairnwell & Carn Aosda above Loch Vrotachan, whilst avoiding traffic conflicts with downhill skiers and resort operations.This route is within the ski-area and offers Ski-Patrol emergency cover.

The route commences at the base of the Baddoch chair, after parking walk past the ticket office to find the start sign.

Worth highlighting the carparks are the property of the ski area so please follow parking guidance and pay for parking.

QR codes are on the route start signs. After parking look for the route start sign with the route itself ascending to lookers left of the chair up a green ski piste, please keep to the sides to avoid downhill traffic. Towards the top of the chair is a very busy intersection with multiple ski lifts meaning lines of people so please travel with caution. The route passing to the left of the Bucharts Access Poma and ascends by the poma before branching left/west toward the base of the Bucharts T-Bar. From there the route follows a summer track keeping to the right of the Coire Buchart drainage before topping out above Loch Vrotachan on the ridge between the two Munros. Descent is a simple case of retracing your steps from the ascent This route, although in the ski-area, is situated in the Scottish Mountains, for the purposes of safety we recommend considering your journey.
