Description

The Uptown to Downtown loop is one of the easiest and most accessible trail rides in Mammoth Lakes.

This mellow loop departs directly from downtown and then rolls along the base of the resort.

The easy climbs and descents don't even add up to a thousand feet of climbing in 9 miles of pedaling. These two trails are directional, meaning that riders must climb Uptown and descend Downtown and cannot ride the trails in the opposite direction.

This makes the navigation ultra-simple, eliminating one of the challenges that beginner mountain bikers often face.

The directionality also means that you won't have to worry about oncoming traffic so you can focus on pedaling hard up the climb and flying down the descent! The singletrack is smooth and non-technical, providing a perfect introduction to mountain biking.

The soil can be a bit loose in places due to the volcanic pumice, but overall the tread is predictable. Uptown is a well-maintained climb that's never too steep.

And "Downtown meanders through a pine forest and offers mountain views through the trees, according to [MammothTrails.org](https://www.mammothtrails.org/trail/35/downtown-mountain-bike-trail/).
