Description

Private land: Access to the Cass Valley and Lady Emily Hut is by permission from Glenmore Station: https://www.glenmorestation.co.nz Lady Emily Hut hut is privately owned and was built by Glenmore Station.

From Memorial Hut at 1070m elevation, cross Ailsa Stream, then climb 200m up a steep tussock slope to gain alpine meadows and a medial moraine rib which brings you to Lady Emily Hut.

Expanding views over the upper Cass Valley and Ailsa Stream provide a welcome excuse to take a break and soak in your surroundings. Lady Emily Hut is a popular destination in the winter for ski-touring and split-boarding.

It is equally rewarding in the summer and a great option for an overnight hike in the Lake Tekapo region or as part of a multi-day hut-to-hut trek. Relax with a hot (or cold!) beverage beside the wood stove as your guide prepares a tasty dinner.

Listen to your guide tell a local Mackenzie legend as you watch the stars come out.

The Mackenzie region is renown for its star-gazing and is part of the International Dark Sky Reserve.

With no other light sources for many miles, these will be some of the clearest skies you’ll ever experience! 3-4 hours hiking in tussocky alpine terrain. 4WD access to Memorial Hut can be cut-off by high river levels, snow or flooding. Guided hike: enjoy the full experience (including a 4WD adventure) with the knowledge and skills of our IFMGA / NZMGA qualified alpine trekking guides on our Lake Tekapo Hut to Hut Trek https://alpinerecreation.com/tekapo-hut-to-hut-trek.html
