Description

Private land: Access to the Cass Valley, Falcon's Nest and Lady Emily Hut is by permission from Glenmore Station: https://www.glenmorestation.co.nz Falcon's Nest and Lady Emily Huts are popular destinations in the winter for ski-touring and split-boarding.

They are equally rewarding in the summer and are a great option for multi-day hut-to-hut hiking in the Lake Tekapo region. Starting from Falcon's Nest Hut, trek up Upper Tin Hut Stream and cross scree slopes to gain a scenic ridge, taking in the impressive views of nearby Mt.

William Grant.

A visit to "Bad Decision" (Whiskey Hut) at 2000m elevation provides a welcome rest after your climb! Continue directly down valley to Lady Emily Hut at 1450m, initially descending scree slopes, then alpine tussock terrain. Enjoy a well earned break at Lady Emily Hut as the sun sets over a breathtaking landscape.

Listen to your guide tell a local Mackenzie legend as you watch the stars come out.

The Mackenzie region is renown for its star-gazing and is part of the International Dark Sky Reserve.

With no other light sources for many miles, these will be some of the clearest skies you’ll ever experience! 5-7 hours trekking along tussocky valleys and scree covered ridges.

You may encounter some snow on the pass.
